  1. BACKGROUND A suspected rabies outbreak in pigs and increased dog bites among humans was reported in Nabweru sub-county, Wakiso district. Two pig farms had been affected and the surrounding community. Investigate the outbreak and institute public health control measures in place. METHODS Health centre III records were reviewed. A total of 68 cases were listed as rabies. Visits to 2 farms with dog bite cases in pigs , 3 Key informant interviews with veterinary, health staff, community leader and 3 focus group discussions(FGDs) with community members were done. A total of 10 brain samples from affected pigs were analyzed using fluorescent antibody technique. OBJECTIVES Rabies outbreak investigation in pigs and humans in Wakiso district, Uganda 2012. David Mugabi, F.kalungi, Kazoora, T. Odoch. RESULTS. In humans, among 68 animal bite cases, males affected were 36(52.9%),40(58.8%) were aged 5-12 years and 28 (41.2%) aged 20-30 years. FGDs revealed that most dog bites were mainly from Stray dogs. 3(30%) brain samples were positive with negri bodies in brain cytoplasm. Interviews revealed that there was no rabies dog vaccination at all in this area. The 10 pigs bitten were not housed. An Epi Curve for dog bites in Humans. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS. Investigation confirmed the outbreak and attributed it to lack of dog vaccination and control of stray dogs. Rabies vaccination in dogs be done by the veterinary personnel in Wakiso district. Pigs pens be constructed to control their movements. Affected humans should get post exposure vaccination from health facilities as soon as possible. PUBLIC HEALTH ACTION TAKEN Mass dog vaccination was done in the community by the veterinary personnel. Sensitization meetings were done in the community.
