China – Focusing on the Main Ideas • The Sui and Tang Dynasties reunited and rebuilt China after years of war. • Buddhism became popular in China and spread to Korea and Japan. • The Tang Dynasty returned to the ideas of Confucius and created a new class of scholar – officials. • The Tang Dynasty strengthened China’s economy by supporting farming and trade. • The Chinese developed new technologies, such as steelmaking and printing. • During the Tang and the Song Dynasties, China enjoyed a golden age of art and literature. • Genghis Khan and his sons built the Mongol Empire, which stretched from the Pacific Ocean to Eastern Europe. • The Mongols conquered China and created a new dynasty that tried to conquer Japan and began trading with the rest of Asia. • Ming rulers strengthened China’s government and brought back peace and prosperity. • During the Ming Dynasty, China sent a fleet to explore Asia and East Africa.
