  1. EN 1943, LEO KANNER (PSIQUIATRA) DESCRIBIÓ POR PRIMERA VEZ UN FENÓMENO DESCONCERTANTE DE LA ALTERACIÓN DEL DESARROLLO HUMANO: EL AUTISMO. IDENTIFICÓ ESTE TRASTORNO EN 11 NIÑOS QUE LLAMABAN LA ATENCIÓN POR "SU AISLAMIENTO, SU RÍGIDA ADHERENCIA A RITUALES, SU CERRADA OPOSICIÓN A LOS CAMBIOS Y EXTRAÑAS PECULIARIDADES DE SU LENGUAJE". • EN LA ACTUALIDAD EXISTE UNA NUEVA CONCEPCIÓN DE BASE BIOLÓGICA SOBRE EL AUTISMO COMO UNA DISCAPACIDAD MADURATIVA CON UN SUSTRATO NEUROLÓGICO Y CON UN COMPONENTE GENÉTICO. • ES, EN SENTIDO ESTRICTO, UN CONJUNTO DE SÍNTOMAS Y PUEDE ASOCIARSE A MUY DIFERENTES TRASTORNOS NEUROBIOLÓGICOS Y A NIVELES INTELECTUALES MUY VARIADOS. • LA DEFINICIÓN ACTUAL SE BASA EN LOS CRITERIOS DEL DSM-IV (MANUAL DE DIAGNÓSTICO Y ESTADÍSTICA DE TRASTORNOS MENTALES) PUBLICADO POR LA ASOCIACIÓN NORTEAMERICANA DE PSIQUIATRÍA (4º EDICIÓN); RESUMIENDO ESTOS CRITERIOS DIREMOS QUE: TODOS LOS AUTISTAS PRESENTAN TRES CATEGORÍAS GENERALES DE DETERIORO DEL COMPORTAMIENTO: • DETERIORO CUALITATIVO DE LA INTERACCIÓN SOCIAL RECÍPROCA: DE LA RELACIÓN SOCIAL. • DETERIORO CUALITATIVO DEL DESARROLLO DEL LENGUAJE Y LA COMUNICACIÓN. • MODOS DE COMPORTAMIENTO, INTERESES Y ACTIVIDADES RESTRINGIDOS, REPETITIVOS Y ESTEREOTIPADOS. • EL TRASTORNO SE INICIA A EDAD TEMPRANA GENERALMENTE DENTRO DE LOS 3 PRIMEROS AÑOS DE VIDA.

  2. ACÉPTAME COMO SOY Necesito más orden del que tú necesitas, que el medio sea más predecible de lo que tú requieres. Como otros niños y adultos, también necesito compartir el placer y me gusta hacer las cosas bien, aunque no siempre lo consiga. No me invadas excesivamente Ayúdame a comprender mi entorno No sólo soy autista. También soy un niño, un adolescente o un adulto No te angusties conmigo, porque haces que también me angustie No me hables demasiado, ni tampoco rápido

  4. ENTRE EN SUS MUNDOS PARA ROBARLES SU LUZUNA LUZ QUE BRILLA EN LA OSCURIDADOBSERVANDO SUS MIRADAS QUE SE PERDÍAN EN EL MAS ALLÁIGNORANDO LA PRESENCIA DE LOS CUERPOS PERO NO DE LAS SOMBRAS QUE LOS PERSIGUENY QUE PARA NOSOTROS ESTÁN COMO AUSENTESPERO EN REALIDAD SIEMPRE ESTÁN PRESENTES

  5. *El ambiente escolar debe ser estructurado de tal manera que el programa sea consistente y predecible. Para lograr eso, tenemos que cultivar conocimientos y así poder generar cambios. *Los alumnos con autismo o PDD-NOS aprenden mejor y se confunden menos cuando la información es presentada tanto visual como verbalmente. *La interacción con compañeros sin discapacidades, ya que estos alumnos pueden ser modelos apropiados en el lenguaje, la interacción social, y conducta. *Para sobrepasar los problemas frecuentes en la generalización de destrezas aprendidas en la escuela, es muy importante desarrollar programas con los padres, para que las actividades de aprendizaje, experiencias, y enfoques puedan ser utilizados en el hogar y la comunidad.

EL AUTISMO SE CLASIFICA EN 5 TIPOS: AUTISMO CLÁSICO O DE KANNER (SEVERO), TRASTORNO GENERALIZADO DEL DESARROLLO (PDD/NOS, MODERADO A LEVE), TRASTORNO PERVASIVO DEL DESARROLLO (PDD, LEVE), SÍNDROME DE RETT (AUTISMO CON DEGENERACIÓN MOTORA, SÓLO AFECTA A NIÑAS) Y SÍNDROME DE ASPERGER (ALTO FUNCIONAMIENTO).
