  2. Ólíkt trú margra hafa engin met í hagvext verið slegin eftir 1995! Hagvöxtur á Íslandi var meiri á tímabilinu 1953-55, milli 1962 og 1966, milli 1970 og 1981 en varð á tímabilinu eftir 1995. Á tímabilinu 1960-1980 komst Ísland í hóp 10-12 ríkustu þjóða heims. Bestu ár tímabilsins eftir 1995 voru 2004 og 2005 og tengist það hinni miklu fjárfestingaþenslu stóriðjuframkvæmdanna á Austurlandi. Þetta má sjá á myndinni. 1996-2005
