  3. Classical Art 500 BCE- 500 CE Purpose: The purpose of much of the art of ancient Greece and Rome was to show the importance of people and leaders, as well as gods and goddesses.

  6. Medieval Art 500 CE – 1300 CE Purpose: The purpose of much medieval art was to teach religion to people who could not read or write.
