  2. Abraham Lincoln and his wife, with a few other guests, decided to go see Our American Cousin at Ford’s theater(11).

  3. Because Lincoln was going to Ford’s theater, Booth decided he could assassinate Lincoln as he watched the play(26).

  4. Because Booth had decided to kill Lincoln, he snuck up on the presidents viewing box while he was watching the play(38).

  5. Because John Wilkes Booth was able to sneak into the presidents box, he shot Lincoln in the back of the head from inches away(41).

  6. Because Booth shot the president in the head, he had to escape by jumping out of the box onto the stage injuring himself in the process(43).

  7. Because Powell was one of Booths conspirators, he tried to kill secretary of state William H. Seward(55).

  8. Because Powell was attempting to kill Seward, David Herold was outside the Seward house hold Powell's horse for escape(57).

  9. Because David Herold heard screams coming from the Seward house, he ran away afraid of being caught(57).

  10. Because Booth was a good actor, he was able to escape into Maryland by crossing a guarded bridge(64).

  11. Because both Booth and Herold were able to escape into Maryland, they were able to meet up at a safe house they planned on meeting at(84).

  12. Because Booth got the weapons he needed from the safe house, he left and went to Samuel A. Mudds farmhouse(93).

  13. Because Booth knew Mudd, Mudd helped Booth by treating his injured leg(98).

  14. Because Mudd made Booth and Herold eventually leave, they went to Captain Cox’s house for assistance(114).

  15. Because Cox was a confederate during the war, he told Booth and Herold that if they wanted to cross the Potomac River into Virginia they would have to find Thomas Jones(117).

  16. Because Jones decided to help Booth and Herold, they were able to cross the Potomac River a few days after they met up with jones(146).

  17. Because it was dark when Booth and Herold crossed the Potomac River they went the wrong way into Maryland(149).

  18. Because Lafayette Baker heard two men, not Booth and Herold, were crossing the Potomac, he was able to track Booth and Herold into Virginia(156).

  19. Because the Garrets felt Booth was hiding something, they locked him in their Tabaco barn as he and Herold slept(164).

  20. Because Herold thought he could talk his way out of trouble, he surrendered himself to the union cavalry(168).

  21. Because Booth didn’t want to be taken alive and paraded around Washington, he raised his rifle and was shot and killed by Boston Corbett(173).
