  1. NEIL ARMSTRONG – THE FIRST MAN ON THE MOON By: Anne Byers Power point by: Michael Kehoe Period 4

  2. Introduction • Neil Armstrong was born on August 5, 1930. • He was born in Wapakoneta. • He is most famous for being the first man on the moon. • I choose this person because it sounds interesting to be the first man on the moon.

  3. Childhood • A struggle for Neil Armstrong was that his family moved a lot. • An event is when he would make small airplane models out of paper ,straw, and scrapes of wood. • An accomplishment was when he was eight or nine he knew he wanted to do something to do with airplanes when he grows up. • He grew up with his dad Stephen, his mom Viola, and his younger brother and sister.

  4. Adolescence • Neil struggled because he wanted money for flight lessons but his parents didn’t think they had the money. So he got a job at the grocery store, drugstore, and hardware store. • One of his accomplishments was that when he was 16 years old he got his pilot license when every body else got their drivers license. • An event of Neil's was that his high school physics class provided him with one of his first opportunities to test airplane designs.

  5. Adulthood • A big accomplishment was that Neil graduated Purdue university with his aero nautical engineering degree, a lot of companies wanted him but he choose the flight station NACA. He was a really good pilot in the air force. • Neil got married and lived with his wife Jan and then she gave birth to 3 kids. Ricky in 1957, Karen in 1959, and mark in 1963.They lived in a small cabin. • A major struggle was that Neil’s wife got a brain tumor and shortly before Neil's wedding anniversary his only daughter died. • In 1958 the president signed into law that NASA had committed to sending men into space. And so Neil decided to be an astronaut In 1961. And he applied in 1962. That was his career. • Neil and 8 others were picked to go into space. They went through a lot of hard tests to get ready for space.

  6. Presidentat the Time Neil Armstrong was Born • Herbert Hoover was president when Neil was born. • Herbert was president through 1929 to 1933.

  7. Positive Contributions • He showed people that America could go to the moon successfully. • He served his country when he was a pilot in the air force. • He was inducted into the Aerospace Walk of Honor for being the first man on the moon.

  8. The Most Interesting Story I Learned The most interesting story I learned was probably when they were to the moon . Armstrong and his partner were suppose to take a nap after they land on the moon so they can have all their energy and can be alert when on the moon. They opened the hatch. Armstrong was the first man to get out of the ship. Everyone gave Armstrong suggestions about what to say when he took his first step on the moon. He didn’t know what to say at first. But then he said, one small step for man and one giant leap for man kind.

  9. Three Questions I would ask Neil Armstrong if I Could • Do you think anyone could go to the moon with the right training? • Did you ever have any doubt about the mission to the moon? • What were you thinking when you took your first step on the moon?
