  1. INTRODUCTION: • The internal gear pumping principle was invented by Jens Nielsen, one of the founders of Viking Pump. • Manufacturers • Viking Pump Inc. • Viking Pump (Europe) Ltd.

  2. How Internal Gear Pumps Work? Actual View 1).Liquid enters the suction port between the rotor and the idler. 2). Liquid travels through the pump between the teeth. 3). The pump head is now nearly flooded, just prior to forcing the liquid out of the discharge port.  4). Rotor and idler teeth mesh completely to form a seal equidistant from the discharge and suction ports. This seal forces the liquid out of the discharge port.

  3. Advantages 1)Only two moving parts. 2)Only one stuffing box. 3)Positive suction, non-pulsating discharge. 4)Ideal for high-viscosity liquids. 5)Constant and even discharge regardless of pressure conditions. 6)Operates well in either direction. 7)Can be made to operate with one direction of flow with either rotation. 8)Low NPSH required. 9)Single adjustable end clearance. 10)Easy to maintain. 1)Usually requires moderate speeds. 2)Medium pressure limitations. 3)One bearing runs in the product pumped. Disadvantages

  4. CONCLUSION: Materials Of Construction / Configuration Options: 1)Externals (head, casing, bracket) - Cast iron, ductile iron, steel, stainless steel, Alloy 20, and higher alloys. 2)Internals (rotor, idler) –Same as the externals 3)Bushing - Carbon graphite, bronze, silicon carbide, tungsten carbide, ceramic, colomony, and other specials materials as needed. 4)Shaft Seal - Lip seals, component mechanical seals, industry-standard cartridge mechanical seals, gas barrier seals, magnetically-driven pumps. 5)Packing - Impregnated packing, if seal not required. Applications: 1)Barge, tanker, and terminal loading and unloading. 2)Filtering. 3)Circulating. 4)Transferring. 5)Lubricating. 6)Booster. 7)General industrial. 8)Marine applications. 9)Petrochemical. 10)Light, medium, or heavy-duty service.
