  2. The Book of Joshua“To Canaan’s Land I’m On My Way”

  3. Joshua 6Lessons for Today We are saved today by God’s gift (grace) and our faith (6:1-3,16; Eph. 2:8-9). We must have the same faith today that caused the walls of Jericho to fall (6:3-21; Heb. 11:30).  God’s ways are not man’s ways (6:3-21; Isa. 55:8-9).  The first fruits belong to the Lord (6:18; Rom. 8:23; 16:5).

  4. Joshua 6Lessons for Today Some people will be saved and some will be destroyed in the judgment of the Lord (6:22-25; Mt. 25:46).  God-fearing men are honest and keep their word (6:22; Jas. 5:12).  The Lord’s promises will come true regardless of the long passing of time (6:26; 2 Peter 3:3-10). The Lord will be with and bless all those who do his will (6:27; Mt. 28:20; Rom. 15:33).

  5. Defeat and Victory at Ai ( Joshua 7-8) Joshua’s Camp Headquarters at Gilgal (Josh. 4:19-20; 5:9-10; 9:6; 10:6,7,9,15,43) Ai

  6. All the Law Read to All the People( Deut. 27:1-14 and Josh. 8:30-25 )

  7. Joshua 7Lessons for Today Trespassing the word of God causes the Lord to become angry (7:1,26; Heb. 10:31; 12:29).  When defeat causes discouragement we should turn to God (7:6-9; Rom. 8:31-39).  Transgression will bring defeat to the one who commits it (7:10-12; Prov. 15:34).  Transgression must be sought out and eradicated and the punishment for trespassing the word of God should be taken seriously by all (7:13-19,22-26; Acts 8:22-23; 1 Cor. 5:1-8).

  8. Joshua 7Lessons for Today Transgression brings folly and death to the one who commits it (7:15,25; Rom. 6:23). Let us “give glory to God” by confessing guilt (7:19; Jas. 5:16). Sin is progressive in its steps: looking can lead to lusting (coveting) and lusting can lead to taking (7:20-21; Jas. 1:14-15).  Sin cannot be hid from God (7:21; Heb. 4:12-13).

  9. Joshua 8Lessons for Today All the people (including the children) need to hear all the word of God, both the blessings and the cursings (8:30-35; Eph.6:4; 2 Tim. 1:5; 3:15).  When leaders and followers read and obey “the book of the law” great things will be accomplished for the Lord (8:32-35; 2 Tim. 2:15; 3:16-17).

  10. Conquer and Divided: Joshua’s Three Campaigns 3 3. Northern Campaign (Josh. 11) 1. Central Campaign (Josh. 6-8) 1 2. Southern Campaign (Josh. 9-10) 2

  11. Joshua 9Lessons for Today Things are not always what they seem (9:4; 2 Cor. 11:14; 2 Thess. 2:9-10). It is important to ask God first and get his word (counsel) on a matter before proceeding (9:14; Mt. 17:5; Heb. 12:1-2). It is important to keep our oaths and promises even if it is to our own hurt (9:19-20; Psa. 15:4; Jas. 5:12).  Dishonesty never pays (9:25; Rev. 21:8).

  12. Joshua 10Lessons for Today We must not have a spirit of fear when fighting our battles (10:8,25; 2 Tim. 1:7-8).  The Lord is in control of his universe (10:11-14; Gen. 1:14; Col. 1:17; Heb. 1:3).  The Lord will help us fight our battles (10:14,42; Eph. 6:10ff).  All of the Lord’s enemies will one day be conquered (10:24; Rom. 16:20; 1 Cor. 15:25).

  13. Joshua 10Lessons for Today Leaders who are strong and courageous (see Josh. 1:7-9) will encourage their followers to be the same (10:25; Eph. 6:10ff; 2 Tim. 1:7-8).  Faithfully obey the Lord’s commands no matter how challenging they may be and victory will follow (10:40; 1 Jn. 5:3-4).

  14. Conquer and Divided: Joshua’s Three Campaigns 3 3. Northern Campaign (Josh. 11) 1. Central Campaign (Josh. 6-8) 1 2. Southern Campaign (Josh. 9-10) 2

  15. Joshua 11Lessons for Today Do not be afraid to do the Lord’s will knowing that he will be with you (11:6; Mt. 10:28; Acts 18:9). Carry out the commands of the Lord with courage and conviction (11:12,15,20,23; Jn. 14:15; 1 Jn. 5:4). Leave nothing undone of all that the Lord commands (11:15; Mt. 23:23; Jas. 4;17). Hardened hearts will cause one to resist God and his word (11:20; Prov. 28:14; Heb. 3:8,15; 4:7).

  16. Joshua 11Lessons for Today No enemy is too strong for the Lord and his people (11:21-22; 1 Jn. 4:4). Rest comes after labor (11:23; Heb. 4:9-11; Rev. 14:13).

  17. Joshua 12Lessons for Today The life of a Christian is a spiritual warfare (12:1,7; Eph. 6:10ff). God keeps his word (12:6; Tit. 1:2). No one can withstand God (12:23; Acts 5:39).

  18. Joshua’s Three Campaigns (Josh. 6-12)Summary of Lessons Joshua: Godly men are needed to lead God’s people into battle (2 Tim. 4:5-8). Israel: Every Christian is a soldier engaged in spiritual battle for the soul (2 Tim. 2:3-4). Nations: Christians have enemies that must be conquered (Eph. 6:10ff). God: The Lord will always fight for his people who remain faithful to him (Rev. 19:11 – 20:10).
