Human Anatomy & PhysiologyScience Elective Objectives: • To explore the systems of the human body and relate their functions to homeostasis • To develop dissection techniques and learn the language of anatomy • To develop an understanding of scientific writings and to practice writing in the APA style • To explore current events and issues in the biomedical sciences

  2. Human Anatomy & Physiology • Counts as 4th science for graduation with an advanced diploma • >cannot count as third required science • Is a science electiveLab class • >fee for dissection kits • >no alternative to dissections in class

  3. Human Anatomy & Physiology • Intensive course in terms of amount of material learned • Memorization is a key to learning • Students will get out of the course what they put into it!

  4. Human Anatomy & Physiology • No at home reading—reading is done through powerpoint lectures in class. • No assigned homework—except for Article Reviews and studying for tests or quizzes, all assignments are given class time to be completed, including labs.

  5. Human Anatomy & Physiology • End of year: • Culminating dissection of cats • Bioethics research paper & presentation • No final exam

  6. Human Anatomy & Physiology • Regular attendance in class is essential for maximum success in any lab-based course. • Labs must be made up after school or during Saxon Time (if time allows) • Limited specimens and/or materials for make-up labs
