  1. Schema Activator 5/10/11 • What are different types of punishment do people receive for breaking laws? How are these punishments addressing the deviant behavior?

Retributive and restorative justice • The retributive method has the main function of punishing people for their crimes. • Punishment is used as a means to reestablish social order. • This method is also described as “an eye for an eye” means of justice • The retributive method frames crime as a violation of the state, defined by law breaking and guilt.

Retributive and restorative justice • The restorative method, while not being completely free of punishment, has two main functions • to rehabilitate • to repair the harm caused or revealed by criminal behavior. • Ideally this method involves all the stakeholders of a community, and frames crime as a violation of people and relationships.
