KEY TERMS: Canalization, stereotypes, gendered, fundamentalists Title: Gender Identity and agents of socialisation Starter: In pairs, discuss which agents of socialisation are to blame for ‘changing traditional masculine and feminine identities’ Extension: Why? What are they doing to change gender role perception?

  2. All (grade D/C): Can identify and explain at least 2 agents of socialisation and give examples of how they have helped change traditional gender role perceptions. Some key terms used. Most(grade C/B): Can outline and explain at least 3 agents of socialisation, describing how they have contributed to the change in gender role perceptions. Key terms and studies are used throughout Some (Grade B/A) Can critically evaluate the ways in which agents of socialisation have contributed to a change in traditional gender role perceptions. Reference to studies and key terms used. Begin to question whether traditional gender roles have changed

  3. People’s social status, social roles, norms, values and identity will generally depend on whether they are classified as masculine or feminine. Sociologists argue we learn these characteristics through gender-role socialisation. We have already looked at how family and education influence gender roles, but what about the other agents of socialisation? Do they not influence gender?

  4. Task: Religion - Aisha Media- Sharntelle Workplace- Ellie School- Sara R Peers- Sara A You must explain back to the class how these agents influence gender role socialisation. Use the sheets and your own knowledge to help you. Include any studies which were used! Jetmira, Victoria and Amnah you have a different task! You will challenge each of the above and argue why they do not influence gender role socialisation!

  5. Write a heading for each agent of socialisation and make notes under each one as the person explains HOW it influences gender role socialisation. Also include any of the challenges the others ask- these could be your arguments against! You will need these if the exam asks you to outline and explain!!
