  1. The Chloroplast Show Me The Green!

  2. Say Hello to Mr. Sun! • Who lights up YOUR world? • Mr. Sun! • BTW, he also goes by the names Radiant or Solar

  3. Think… • In the winter, our part of earth faces AWAY from the sun • What happens to our environment in the winter? • But… the earth doesn’t freeze over completely… • Why?

  4. Distance • Even though our part of the earth faces away, its distance never changes!

  5. What Would Happen? • Without the sun, temperatures would drop

  6. What About Plants? • Do plants need sun to survive? • What else do plants need?

  7. Let’s Review… • We learned that ALL life processes require Energy • Which organelle makes our Energy molecule? • What is our Energy molecule? • What is the FUEL we need to MAKE that Energy molecule?

  8. Plants are SOOOOO cool! • Plants capture the Solar Rays from the Sun • Plants change that energy into a Glucose molecule • All of this happens in a special organelle: The Chloroplast

  9. Do We Have Chloroplasts? • Animals DO NOT have Chloroplasts… • Unless you’re GROOT

  10. How Does It Work? • Think about a Bouncy Ball • Does it bounce forever? • NO! It loses energy with every bounce! • Bouncing Balls

  11. And? • Sunlight comes into the Chloroplast… • And bounces around, losing energy inside the Chloroplast! • The Chloroplast captures that energy and stores it in a Glucose molecule • Think about Pretzels!

  12. Today… • We are building a paper model of a Chloroplast!
