  1. THE CHLOROPLAST By Phillip Wong and Jeff Onaga

  2. Basics • The Chloroplast is an organelle found in plant cells. • Chloroplasts are made up of thylakoid stacks (Granums) and Lamella http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chloroplast

  3. Functions • Chloroplasts use light energy to create food in ATP form. (C6H12O6) • This process is called Photosynthesis. • Chloroplasts take in water and CO2 to make sugar and oxygen. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosynthesis

  4. More Information • The stroma in chloroplasts contain DNA as well as RNA. • Thylakoid discs absorb photon light energy. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://botit.botany.wisc.edu/images/130/Chlorophyta/Chlamydomonas_images/Detail_chloroplast_pyrenoid.low.jpg&imgrefurl=http://botit.botany.wisc.edu/images/130/Chlorophyta/Chlamydomonas_images/Detail_chloroplast_pyrenoid.html&usg=__hRcJnREeOwT-UMsdDvkog2h-imY=&h=391&w=480&sz=21&hl=en&start=10&um=1&tbnid=7-nUzCor0RvBFM:&tbnh=105&tbnw=129&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dchloroplast%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den-us%26um%3D1
