When did the Big Bang happen? • 13.7 Billion years ago • What are TWO pieces of evidence that show us that the Big Bang happened? • Redshift- what is redshift???? • Background Radiation- ??? • How does Hubble’s law support the Big Bang Theory? • That the further away an object is the faster it is moving away • What are the THREE Theories that could happen in the future to our Universe? • Open Universe- keep expanding finitely and eventually all stars burn out • Flat Universe- We will eventually stop expanding but again all stars will burn out • Big Crunch or Closed- Eventually dark energy wears off and the gravity pulls back into another Big Bang • What was recently found in our Universe? What was is this discovery so significant? • The oldest and most furthest galaxy in our universe, creating within 400,000 of the initial Big Bang. What does this galaxy look like right now? Positive- as temperature increases, brightness increases • How is the relationship with temperature and volume different? Why? Negative- as volume increases, temperature decreases (the heat become more spread-out) • Where was the Sun located in this graph? The combining of hydrogen atoms to create helium atoms in the core of a star that releases an enormous amount of heat and energy. • As a star ages, its burns heavier elements like calcium, carbon and iron. How is this important to the formation of solar systems? These heavier elements are what can make-up earth-like planets • How do you BELIEVE our solar system was formed?
