  2. 3/4 Do Now • Symbols are a big part of The Great Gatsby. Each character and place is symbolic of America in the 1920s especially in reference to the American Dream. Write about one of the characters from the novel and how they they could be a symbol. • Tom and Daisy • Jordan • Myrtle and Wilson • Pg. 38

  4. 3/6 Do Now • While in the library at Gatsby’s party the owl-eyed man is surprised to find the books are real and not just cardboard fakes. What symbolic meaning could this reference have about society in the 1920s? How much do young people value books and knowledge today? What distracts young people today from more meaningful pursuits? • Pg. 40
