Addressing Minority Representation in Leadership Roles in Healthcare

Despite making up about 30% of the population, African Americans, Hispanics, and American Indians hold only 3% of senior management positions in American corporations and nonprofits. This disparity extends to healthcare, where these groups represent 25% of the population but occupy less than 9% of nursing roles, 6% of physician roles, and just 5% of dentists. The Sullivan Commission's report highlights the critical need for increased diversity. Programs like UTHSCSA LEAD and others aim to cultivate leadership in underrepresented minorities in healthcare and academia.
