  5. What is SWE? • Mission: Stimulate women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity.

  7. How to Join www.swe.org • Become a National Member: No Chapter Dues! • You have 3 Options:1. Collegiate - Do this if you have 2 year or less left in college ($20 per year)2. Joint - Do this if you plan to join AISES, NSBE, SHPE3. Collegiate to Career - Do this if you have 2 or more years left in college. It gives you automatic professional membership for a year ($50 one time fee during college)

  9. Become a member for FREE! Participate in the Schlumberger essay contest! 1. Sign up for SWE Membership-swe.org 2. Submit Schlumberger Essay 3. Submit confirmation email from contest to swe.uh.edu@gmail.com with your name and SWE membership number. Use S2S as subject, EX: Ali Siddique_S2S • GO TO: http://www.stilettostosteeltoes.com/ • Rewards: •  Reimbursed $20 SWE Membership fee 2014 • 5 points for doing the essay

  10. SWE Points! • 1 point per meeting • 1 point if you wear a shirt to the meeting • 4 points per volunteer event • 2 points per social or workshop attended • 1 point per committee meeting attended

Gain insight, pointers and networking! Basics… • Where? • Los Angeles Convention Center • When? • Thursday, October 23 – Saturday, October 25 • Leave Houston Thursday @ 7:35 p.m. • Leave LA Saturday @ 5:35 p.m. • Why? • Speakers, workshops, career fair, networking, professional development, company events, LA, free stuff • What? • SWE covers flights, hotel, registration, airport & conference shuttles, breakfasts & group dinner

Who can go? • About 10 spots available • Participant selection is based on the following: • Be a paid member of SWE • Your previous SWE participation (ranked by points earned last year) • Expected graduation date • Answers to the survey • Want to go? • Fill out the survey by midnight Thursday, Sept 4th! • **If selected, you must complete agreement and safety deposit by 5p.m. on Saturday, Sept 6th or your spot will go to the next person** • Participants are expected to attend a National Conference Meeting the week of October 13th, exact time and date are TBA

  20. Launch into Engineering • Outreach for high school students • Our biggest outreach in the year! • Date is TBA (January) • Students will rotate in hands-on workshops • Workshops cover different engineering disciplines • Aiming for 150-200 students • Guest Speaker from Baker Hughes
