Settling into school • We hope that your child has already settled into the new routines, and they are happy with the day to day organisation. • The children are now becoming aware of the increasing expectations. • We aim to support and nurture them in developing their own individual skills and talents.

  4. Autumn Term • This term the focus of study will be the Gods and Gladiators. • The children will become, “ Historical detectives,” to try to find out as much as possible about this period in history. • Visit to Caerleon – November

  5. Spring Term • This term, the children will study a unit of work called, “ Blood, Bones and Gory Bits,” a look at the body and how it works. • They will investigate healthy living and develop their practical scientific skills. • We are always keen to have anyone who has expertise in the medical field to come in and speak with the children.

  6. Summer Term • Geography based topic called TravelAgents. • Children will develop their mapping skills and will research a country and make a formal presentation to the class. • We will visit the Urdd Centre at Llangrannog (dates to be announced) where your children will be able to try lots of different adventurous activities and practise their Welsh speaking.

  7. Other weekly features • Your child has a weekly Games/ PE session. They require suitable PE kit, which can be left in school. This will be on a Tuesday - black shorts and white t shirt and for outdoor games warmer gym clothes and trainers. • There is a weekly spelling test on a Friday where the children will be tested by their partners on individually generated lists. Topic spelling words will also be given. • A speed test is given each week on a Friday focusing on the relevant times tables.

  8. Reading • We will be developing your child’s reading skills throughout the year. We aim encourage a love of books and want the children to enjoy reading, providing the opportunity for them to experience a wide range of texts. • Your child has a Reading Journal which acts as a dialogue between school and home, where reading at home can be recorded. • Your child also reads in a weekly group reading session with the teacher. • The interactive white board and iPads also encourage reading through many other subjects throughout the day.

  9. Maths • We want your child to be confident independent and resourceful in mathematics. • Maths is taught every day. • Children will be taught in ability groups but the groups are flexible and will change during the year. • Children will be expected to know their multiplication facts by the end of the year.

  12. Keeping up to date • Email via Hwb. • Class Dojo • Phone the office to make an appointment to see the teacher. • Come to meet us in the yard before school. We are always available there from 8.40 am. • Or, of course, an old-school letter! You are always welcome and we value your comments.
