Research: A New Avenue for ASK
Why Research? • Adding scientific evidence as for the effectiveness of SK • Advocating the importance and integrity of CAM in health care • Making kinesiology more known
Our 1st Project: Breast Mastalgia • Based on Stephanie Mills’ study in 1996, in co-operation with Guy’s Hospital, London UK. • Very good outcome • “Easy” first project
Broad Outline of Study: • 25 - 50 participants • 1 group receives no treatment • The other group sees a kinesiologist for half an hour 3 times over a period of time, eg 2 months. • Compare the results
What would be expected by participating practitioners? • Short training for consistency of treatments • Local promotion of study • Adherence to strict study protocol eg treatment layout, follow up and progress update
What ASK will assist with: • Promote the study • Prepare leaflets for interested parties and participants • Press releases
In preparation of the Study: • Finalising of Code of Ethics and development of research protocol • Specific practitioner training for the study • Questionnaire for demographics and pain measurement etc • Sourcing of participant base
What’s in it for you? • Greater exposure as practitioners • Developing an “expert” area • CPD points • Chance to work with kinesiology in a different way
Interested? • Fill in the “expression of interest” form • Get in touch with Liz or Siobhan • All ideas and comments welcome!
