1. Communication • I will make copies of the sheets you put your contact information on. It is extremely important you keep in touch with your classmates and with me so you don’t fall behind. • My email is patspitz@newmex.com • Leave a message with Ms. Romero or in my mailbox if you have any emergencies. • Have your parents call in when you are ill or otherwise not coming in. You need to request make-up work at that time.

2. Communication • My email: patspitz@newmex.com –You will need to email me asap. Don’t send me an email that says “Here’s my email.” Your email address may be something like– brngnsexybck@hotmail.cm but seriously think about using the first initials of your name and last name. patspitz@newmex.com or pspitz@gmail.com is much better. You need to include your name, the class name and the period you are enrolled in. Do this no later than August 25th. I am putting classes into groups . . . 10 point assignment to establish communication. Print out my response when you receive it to prove you did it JIC (just in case).

3. Taking Notes • It is easier for me to see if you are taking notes if you follow a prescribed method of taking notes. One of the ways I have accomplished this in the past is by using Cornell Notetaking. Yes, you do get credit for taking notes because taking notes is part of the binder grade you receive each month or so – I check up every so often. Binder checks will be announced, but you should keep on top of it so you don’t get caught empty-handed. A zero on a binder means a letter grader (10%).

5. The Binder • 1.5 to 2 inches with 5 sections. Dividers are necessary. You will have this organized by August 25. Be prepared to fail if you don’t have this. • 5 sections are as follows: • Warm-ups • Notes –in Cornell format • Assignments (stamped work – graded in class) • Returned work • Handouts – Resource materials

6. Notes about the binder grade • For your binder to be graded an A you must: • Have it on test day • Have all assignments completed by test date. • Have 3 pages for each section of notes . . . There are usually about 6-7 sections per chapter. You can get these from your neighbor, your textbook or on-line at the school website http://www.taosschools.org/ths • Definitions/Postulates & Theorems and any formulas from the chapter must accessible. • Warm-ups – come from the end of each section names “Mixed Review.” • In-class project type work – things we worked on in class

9. Assignment • Pg. 527-528 #1-20 • The assignment is just a variation of what you did this last weekend. Answer the questions. • DUE TOMORROW.

11. HOMEWORK #1 Not a note • Problems 1 and 2 use the information following. An insurance adjuster has tabulated the dollar amount of 50 auto accident claims. The results are given in the table that follows.

First find the smallest and the largest numbers • The least is 118 and the most is 998. • Next find the range by subtracting the smaller from the larger 998-118 = 880 • Next find the class width by dividing the range by the # of classes (8). 880/8 = 110 • Finally, construct the frequency distribution. 14. NOTE Finally problem #2 Using the frequency table from Problem #1, find what percent of the total claims were between $451 and $672. pB = A p(50) = 8 + 6 p(50) = 14 p= 14/50 p = 0.28 or 28%

What if I’m absent . . . • If you will be absent, you need to turn in your homework either downstairs with Ms. Romero in my mailbox that day or hand-deliver it to me when you return with a parent note telling me why the work is late. -- if it becomes habitual (after 3), I require a parent conference. If your absence is not excused . . . it will not be accepted. If you do not turn in any work, expect a phone call home. • I won’t take late homework. Daily stamped work is not worth a whole lot anyhow. The test grades are worth far more. I have 166 students . . . I don’t have enough time to go back and grade these. If you miss an assignment; you may come in after school and work on it in front of me. Additional extra credit is sometimes available.

17. Extra Credit? • If you miss any assignments – you may earn up to 2 extra credit assignments by bringing in a box(es) of tissue – and not the tiny boutique type. This offer is open until the end of August only. • Thereafter, you will have to walk for our senior class in the Walk-a-Mile-in-My-Shoes Walk-a-thon for the Dreamtree project. $10 to enter and you can find sponsors if you wish. • Homecoming activities. We have the hallways, the float, the car bash, the pep rally, and Powder puff. Dress up days will earn you a little bit as well. Last day for homecoming activity EC is September 19.
