  2. Reading Passage 1 Last Saturday was my birthday, so I went shopping with my mother. We went to a sports shop. I had always wanted to buy a basketball. As it was my birthday, my mother decided to buy it for me. There were a few types of basketballs. It took me quite some time to choose the one I wanted. My mother paid for it and I walked out of the shop happily.

  3. Reading Passage 2 There was a kind man who lived in a village with his wife. His wife was as kind as he. One day, the man heard of a poor family. The father was very sick and could not work. The mother worked on a farm. There was no one to take care of the children. On New Year’s Day, the kind couple visited the family and gave them presents, food and money.

  4. Reading Passage 3 Today, we have a lesson on making play dough. First, we put two cups of flour into a big bowl. Next, we add one cup of salt to the flour. Then, we mix the salt and the flour together. After that, we add in water and a few drops of food colouring. Lastly, we mix everything together. When the dough does not stick to our hands, it is ready for use.

  5. Reading Passage 4 One day, John’s father bought a computer. John was very excited. He loved computer games. As soon as he came home from school, he would rush through his lunch. Then, he would sit in front of the computer that he even forgot to do his homework. His mother was very angry with him. She stopped him from playing computer games.

  6. Reading Passage 5 Last Saturday, Mei Lin had a birthday party at her house. She invited all her classmates to the party. On that day, she put on her beautiful pink dress. She was very excited. Her mother had prepared a lot of food. Soon, all her friends arrived. Mei Lin and her friends ate and played. Later, her friends sang her a birthday song. Mei Lin was very happy on that day.
