  5. What is a database?

  6. The animal rescue centre database We will look at the database as a class. When we open it, it will look like this:

  7. Getting information from the database • Click here for a video tutorial which shows you how to: • Sort the data into order using any field e.g. date of arrival • Filter the data e.g. So that you only see information about cats

  8. Using the database You will keep all the information for your leaflet in a planning document. Click here to open a copy of the document and save it in your network areas using a sensible name. Open the database by clicking here. The carry out the following tasks:

  9. Copying images

  10. Working out the costs of keeping each pet Open the spreadsheet you made earlier to work out the cost of keeping a pet. Use it to work out the costs of keeping the three pets you have chosen. Remember to make changes in your spreadsheet as needed. For example, if you have chosen a large dog, such as a Great Dane, you will need to increase the number of tins of dog food needed! Enter the costs for each animal in the “Costs” column of your planning document.

  11. Fill in your assessment sheet! Open the assessment sheet you saved at the end of the last lesson and put a 1 next to the level you think you have achieved in lesson 5. Remember to give reasons for your decision!
