  2. Model FOR COUNSELING PLAN • The Counseling Plan for Lowe’s Grove is based on the American School Counseling Association model:

GUIDING PRINCIPLES • Every student benefits from a quality, developmental, and comprehensive school counseling program. • Every student will be prepared to be a positive contributor to the community. • Every student will be prepared to develop healthy and meaningful relationships with peers and adults. • Every student is entitled to a safe and nurturing learning environment.

  4. FOUNDATION The Lowe’s Grove Comprehensive Counseling Plan seeks to support the goals of the School Improvement Plan: • Increase the attendance rate • Decrease out-of-school suspension rate • Increase achievement as evidenced by State Standardize Testing

  5. DELIVERY SYSTEM Individual Counseling • Short term, lasting about six to eight weeks • Occurs once a week or bi-weekly for about thirty minutes • Goal to help student develop coping strategies to deal with personal issues, peer problems and academic concerns that interfere with learning • Is NOT a substitute for mental health therapy

DELIVERY SYSTEM Small Group Counseling • Group consist of six to eight students with similar concerns • Short term, about four to six sessions • Each session last about thirty minutes • Goal is to help students develop strategies or enhance skills to deal with concerns that interfere with learning

DELIVERY SYSTEM Consultation • Goal is to create a supportive team for students • Creates school-family-agency communication through regular meetings with stakeholders with parental consent • Weekly problem solving meetings with teachers and administrators to review and discuss the needs of students

  8. DELIVERY SYSTEM Classroom Guidance • Is planned to meet the developmental needs of each grade level • Topics selected address current needs and the NC Essential Standards for Guidance • Examples of topics are: Time Management, Anti-Bullying, Transition to High School, etc.

MANAGEMENT • Counselors review the Comprehensive Counseling Plan at least at mid-year and year-end • The goal for counselors is to spend 80% of our time in direct services to students • Counselors strive to communicate to administrators the role of the counselor and the components of the Comprehensive Counseling Plan • Counselors use data to develop and evaluate Comprehensive Counseling Plan

  10. ACCOUNTABILITY • Counselors review available data for attendance, achievement (SRI, SMI, Curriculum Assessments), and discipline monthly • Counselors conduct a rating survey for NC Essential Standards for Guidance three times a year • Counselors analysis pre and post surveys for small group counseling and classroom guidance. • Counselors will conduct a use of time analysis to make changes to support 80% of time for direct student services
