This project focuses on improving mobile user interface (UI) design by integrating EEG and eye-tracking analysis. The goal is to create a seamless user experience that balances technical functionality with aesthetic appeal. By wirelessly connecting a smartphone to an EEG headset, we will analyze user interactions with both effective and ineffective interface designs. The data gathered will help in developing principles for user-friendly mobile applications, providing a novel usability testing method and a pathway to optimizing app designs for better user engagement.

Improving Mobile User Interface Designs Using EEG and Eye-Tracking Analysis Don Adley Mark Goadrich
Background • Goal of Interface Design • To make the user’s interaction as simple and efficient as possible • The design must have a balance between technical functionality and visual elements
Research Plan http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/nielsen-android-tops-iphone-in-desirability-among-consumers/ http://homoartificialis.wordpress.com/2012/01/ • Create an app that will wirelessly connect a smartphone to the EEG headset • Eye-tracking equipment will be used to increase the effectiveness of the software • Begin trials utilizing good and bad interface designs • Examine the data from the app and attempt to pinpoint interactions • Employ artificial intelligence methods for the analysis of these results • Test our model using designs in progress and domain experts
Benefits • Provide the foundation based on empirical data to create the principles of a user friendly app • Provide a new method of usability testing for mobile applications • Provide a method to improve app designs
