  4. Dominican RepublicThe Founding • Discovered by Columbus in 1492 • Diego Columbus, was the first viceroy or ruler in La Española. • Santo Domingo, the capital, was founded in 1496 – which makes it the oldest European settlement in the Western Hemisphere.

  16. María Teresa (Maté) • October 15, 1936 • 1958 Marries Leandro (Leo) • Had one child • imprisoned with Minerva in March of 1960 • freed in August, even though they were sentenced to 3 years
