  3. Traidhos Three-Generation Barge Program Educating for Sustainability in the Chao Phraya Watershed since 1995

  4. Traidhos Three-Generation Barge Program • In 1995, The Traidhos Three-Generation Barge Program started working on the Chao Phraya River as an environmental education program. • In 2001, the Barge Program was named one of five best practices in the Asia Pacific, by the UNEP (United Nations Environment Program). The program has become well-known among Thai Schools, International Schools, and organizations from many different countries. • In 2008 IGES recognized the program as one of good practice in the field of education for sustainability. • All staff have degrees from international or Thai universities, and are CPR and First Aid certified.

  5. Staff Each trip will have at least two ISPP teachers, one male and one female. There will be three Barge staffand crew. The Barge staff will include a native Thai speaker.

  6. The Barge • Originally a Rice Barge used on the Chao Phraya, the boat has been converted to a floating classroom. • The boat is registered with the Thai Harbor Department and the captain is licensed there as well.

Barge Teaching Methodology Environmental Action Explore issue Our goal is to present activities in a sequence that… • introduces students to global environmental issues, • requires them to apply critical thinking skills to environmental issues in their immediate environment, • encourages them to take responsibility through independent action. Trip Objectives Students will: • Explore the region’s history by visiting historical sites and conducting investigations; • Experience life in Thailand first hand; • Investigate the natural river environment of the Chao Phraya watershed and the human impact upon it; • Have fun living and working together.

  10. Safety • Risk Assessment at each site (safety rules, play boundaries) • Staff are practiced in First Aid, CPR and water life-saving techniques. • All sites have full evacuation plans. • The barge is equipped with first-aid supplies and staff carry first-aid bags whenever leaving the ship.

What to Bring … What not to Bring … • Small piece of carry on soft luggage with clothes and toiletries (including shower items) • Day pack with water bottle, hat, sun screen, pen and camera • Pocket Money: $20 max. • Swimsuit • Named clothing • Snacks & gum • MP3 players • Mobile phones • Other electrical devices • Blankets/sleeping bags

Logistics • Please complete all “Barge Trip Forms”and return to Ms. Bridget by Friday 8 November 2013. • Attach a photocopy of your child’s passport including the photo page and the Cambodian Visa page. Ensure your child’s passport does not expire for at least six months. • Attach a copy of your child’s medical insurance.

  24. Logistics – Financial Matters • $100 deposit due on Friday 8 November to be paid in the ISPP Financial Office (on the secondary campus). • Trip will cost between $500 and $600(Exact cost will be known after all forms and deposits are submitted. Invoices will then be sent home.) • Final payment is due no later than Friday 29 November 2013
