  2. What is an All God’s Children Camp? All God’s Children Camp provide week long camps for children whose mother or father is incarcerated. With the promotion of faith intertwined, the camps give children a fun, relaxing, pressure-free week away from home at various locations in Virginia. Partnering with Virginia United Methodist churches, All God’s Children Camp provides a week of sanctuary for children who face challenges in their lives including economic poverty, temporary living conditions, violence, and drugs.

  3. Camp Occohannock on the Bay I have been a mentor at the All God’s Children Camp at Camp Occohannock for the past two summers. It’s located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Nestled right on the water, the camp has scenic views and is a prime spot for all types of camp games such as hiking, boating, and swimming – three of the favorite activities of the kids.

  4. What do I do? My role at the camp is to be a mentor. I directly look after two boys, ages 6-8, and stay in a cabin with four other young boys, and two other mentors. We stay with our kids at all times of the day taking them to the camp activities, meals, and lessons, all while giving them an adult figure to just talk with. We are there because of the kids and for the kids; they make the camp special.

  5. A Glimpse of Camp

  6. My Experience • My time with the camp has truly changed me. It’s something I love to do, volunteering with kids, and I plan to do it every summer. The children are all amazing and all deserve this week of fun. They are the reason that I continue to come back.
