  8. Gather Your Records • Survey your family records • Enter information into a computer program • Personal Ancestral File • Ancestral Quest • RootsMagic • Legacy • This enables you to print out pedigree charts, family group records, and attach images and notes to your records.

  9. Research • Perform original research to: • Locate new genealogical data • Confirm details on your pedigree

  10. Register for new FamilySearch (NFS) • Register online at new.familysearch.org • You will need your Church membership number and confirmation date

  20. Immediate Success Option • Click “Me and My ancestors” to see what the Church has already gathered about your family.

  21. Immediate Success Option • Add living direct-line ancestors to your pedigree using information from your family records. • Add records of your ancestors who are deceased.

  22. Immediate Success Option • “Search” to see if they are already in the Common Pedigree data base.

  23. Immediate Success Option • Connect them to your pedigree if you find them!

  24. Immediate Success Option • Pointing green arrow indicates that ancestors need temple ordinances.

  25. Immediate Success Option • To confirm that they really do need ordinances, you must first check for Possible Duplicates.

  26. Immediate Success Option • Click on the person’s name, then check for “Possible Duplicates.”

  27. Immediate Success Option • Combine any possible duplicates so all information on that person is in that person’s folder.

  28. Immediate Success Option • If the person still needs ordinances after combining all possible duplicates, then prepare a Family Ordinance Request (FOR). • Click on the green arrow pointing to the temple and simply follow the instructions listed online.

  29. Immediate Success Option • It is recommended to put one or several individuals on one FOR. • Take your FOR to the temple, obtain the ordinance cards at the temple desk and get to work!

Long-Term Success in Family History • Continue practicing the Family History Basics: • Compile your own life history • Keep a Book of Remembrance • Seek out your kindred dead as far as you can • Participate in family history programs, like FamilySearch Indexing • Organize your family and hold meetings and reunions • Attend the temple as often as possible, first for yourself, then for your progenitors, and then for others

  31. Long-Term Success in Family History • Clean up your NFS records • Combine other duplicate records for others in your family • Add other direct line living members • Add additional lines

  32. Long-Term Success in Family History • Go to a Family History Center • Get help from a Family History Consultant • Learn research skills • Find more ancestors with your new research capabilities • Do their ordinances
