Though the nursing institutes in India produce a large pool of nurses every year, there is no denying that they lack the much needed practical knowledge and hands on experience. Considering the medical boom that India is likely to experience the next 20 years, there is a need for quality education in nursing. Career Prospects There are wide employment opportunities for B.Sc. /M.Sc. Nursing/GNM/ANM Degree/Diploma holders in public as well private sector. They can seek a job in Government run hospitals, primary health care centres, dispensaries and health projects and schemes run by government departments. They can also be employed in schools, Orphanages and old age homes. Private sectors nursing homes, clinics are also a good option.

  2. They are also recruited by Military, Railways department for their departmental hospitals. Besides these they can opt for teaching in training institutes as educators. Admission Criteria General Nursing& Midwifery (GNM) [50 seats] 3 years diploma programme following annual examination system. 10+2 with English and must have obtained a minimum of 40% at the qualifying examination and English individually from any recognized board. Candidates are also eligible from State Open School recognized by State Government and National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by Central Government. However Science is preferable. 10+2 with English having 40% of marks in vocational ANM course from the school recognized by Indian Nursing Council 10+2 with English having 40% of marks in Vocational Stream-Health care Science from a recognized CBSE board/State/Centre Registered ANM with pass marks. Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing [30 seats] 2 years degree programme following annual examination system. 10+2 with General Nursing and Midwifery passed and registered as RN, RM with State Nursing Registration Council. Student shall be medically fit. Age: Minimum and Maximum Age for admission will be 17 and 35 years at the time of admission. B.Sc. Nursing [50 seats] 4 years degree programme following annual examination system. 10+2 class passed with Science (PCB) & English Core/ English Elective with aggregated of 45% marks. 10+2 Passed out from recognized board under AISSCE/ CBSE/ ICSE/ SSCE/ HSCE or other equivalent Board. Student shall be medically fit. Students appearing in 10+2 examination in Science conducted by National Institute of Open School. Age: Minimum and Maximum Age for admission will be 17 and 35 years at the time of admission. CLINICAL TRAINING AREAS: Students are posted to different speciality hospitals for their training as per required by INC. Speciality teachers and clinical instructors also guiding and supervising the students in clinical area.

Infrastructure & Facilities Swift Institute of Nursing endeavors to create nursing professionals by equipping them with practical knowledge, experience & providing them with the exposure necessary for their professional development. All the Nursing Laboratories are well equipped as per the guidelines of Indian Nursing Council. Fundamentals of Nursing Lab A well furnished and equipped laboratory is available for M.Sc.(N), B.Sc. (N), Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing and G.N.M students to develop skills in imparting basic nursing procedures for the general care of the patients. The students are also trained to carry out the advance nursing procedures by the expert teachers. Anatomy and Physiology Lab This lab has a covered area of 1700 sq. ft and is equipped with 3D models, charts, bones and skeletons necessary as an aid for better understanding of subjects like Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Surgical Nursing Video and Audio aids are also available in the form of CD's for the students to learn the further details about anatomy & physiology. Nutrition Lab Nutrition Lab covers an area of 1500 sq. ft and is basically meant for B.Sc. , G.N.M and Post Basic Nursing students. It is fully equipped with modern electronic gadgets like food processor, refrigerator and microwave for practical demonstration with A-Class cookware and working tables. Central gas supply is available in the Lab and the concept of special dietary requirements as per the disease conditions is explained and demonstrated in the lab by the subject experts. Students prepare therapeutic diets for various age groups. Community Health Nursing Lab Community health nursing lab is a replica of modern –cum- traditional community with all the facilities required for field demonstration and orientation of students for the community exposure. The Laboratory is well equipped with Community Health Nursing bags, health education materials, models, puppets, flash cards to provide age appropriate health teaching in the community so as to provide preventive, curative and rehabilitative services to the community. The students are also provided family folders and Performa's for antenatal, postnatal, neonatal assessment etc to maintain the record of all the care provided in the community.

Midwifery & Paedatric Lab This Lab is meant for Diploma and Degree students and is equipped with all the requisite articles for developing the skills of students for handling normal and complicated deliveries. The lab has a good number of instruments used in obstetrics and gynecological procedures. This lab also is equipped with articles and models for Paedatric Nursing procedures. The students gain skills in imparting comprehensive maternity and child care. Pre-clinical Lab: This lab is used for both courses gnm and bsc. Pre-clinical lab is equipped with all important wet specimen and equipments like microscope, glucometer agar media which help to enhance the learning of students by providing demonstration in microbiology and biochemistry. This lab helps to support the performance and identification Advanced nursing skill laboratory : Our college provide traning to all the nursing students by teaching them about advanced nursing procedures to impart efficient nursing care which helps the life of person in life threatning conditions. Advanced nursing skill lab is established in 1700sq foot area. We have fully furnished lab which is equiped with advanced CPR training manikin, patient education tracheostomy set training, nursing baby, multifunctional full fuctional vein injection, simulators, normal delivery kit, etc which gave the exact replica of performing the advanced procedures. A.V.Aids Lab: The audio visual lab is for all students. It includes all types of audio-visual aids which initiates the smart and easy learning. Lab is equipped with audio and visual materials which are useful in classroom learning also. Lab contains LCD Projector’s, OHP’s, Slide Projector’s, T.V., Radio, Puppets, Models and Charts. Students are taught by using such aids that enhances the students retaining power of the study content and also makes lecture interesting. Infrastructure & Facilities Computer Lab Spacious Computer lab is available in campus, well equipped with latest configured Computers. Internet facility (Wi- Fi) 24*7, Printing facilities are available to students for study and research reference. Library of various clinical investigations.

  6. The Library of the Institute is enriched with large numbers of books related to Medicine, Surgery, Nursing, General Knowledge, Biological Sciences and Social Sciences etc with latest editions. It also has other literature including journals, magazines, and news papers. Foreign and Indian Journals are supplied regularly in adequate number. Computer and Internet facilities are provided to meet the student's needs. Class Rooms This Institute has a very Magnificent Building with spacious Class Rooms well equipped as per INC norms. Class room teaching in all the subjects is imparted by well qualified professional faculty by using modern modalities of teaching. Theory is well integrated into Clinical Training by placing the students in its affiliated hospitals. For clinical practice in community Health Nursing students are posted in Rural & Urban centers. In both hospital and community health setting students are continuously supervised & well guided by their teachers. Hostel The well furnished hostel is within the campus having independent furniture for each student and as well as mess facility, safe drinking water, cold & hot water supply & electricity are available round the clock. Gym, facility, outdoor & indoor games are available. Tuck shop & canteen is located adjoining to the hostel. For students convenience each room has bathroom/ toilet attached TRANSPORT: For Transportation, our campus has a procurement of buses and cabs to fetch students from various destinations i.e Chandigarh, Mohali, Ambala & Patiala. In case of emergency we have divergent transportation facilities to cater to such situations.

  7. General Information: 1. The Hostel is compulsory for every student. 2. All admission is provisional and is subject to approval by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. 3. The courses of study and examinations will be governed by the regulations of BFUHS, Faridkot and INC, New Delhi and PNRC for diploma course. 4. The Classes for the failed/ detained students will start immediately after the declaration of results. Attendance in these classes is compulsory. 5. The Rules and Regulations, including fee may be revised as and when required by Govt./ Management and the revised Rules and Regulations/ fee will be applicable irrespective of the conditions mentioned in this prospectus. 6. The tuition fee/other charges for the year will have to be deposited at the time of admission before start of classes. 7. Attendance in theory 80% and in clinical 100% is mandatory for students as prescribed by the INC. 8. 50% marks are needed to clear the examination of academic year. Regarding Ragging: Ragging is strictly banned inside/outside the campus and is a criminal offence. Ragging is strictly banned by the Govt. of India/ Supreme of India/ Our Swift Fundamental and Research Educational Institutions/ Other authorities. Now a days “Ragging” is synonym of Teasing, abusing, playing practical jokes, threatening, harassment, cruelty, fear, Physical and mental torture. “If any incidence of ragging comes to the notice of the authorities, the concerned students shall be given liberty to explain and if his/her explanation is not found satisfactory, the authorities would expel him/ her from the institution”. In Case the victim if ragging, his/her parent/guardian is not satisfied with the action taken by the college authorities or college authority is of the opinion that incident ought to be so reported, a first information report (FIR) with local police authority shall be filed. Misbehavior/ criminal activity of the student will attract expulsion from the institution. Mobile phone is not allowed in classroom, if found will be confiscated and will be returned only to parents for first time, second time it will not be returned at all.
