Learning Objective: Given videos and websites, students will be able to correctly answer given questions, in the presentation, about the Aztec and Incan societies, with 100% accuracy. State or Common Core and ISTE Standard: 7.67 Explain the roles of peoples in the Aztec and Incan societies, including class structures, family life, warfare, religious beliefs and practices, and slavery. (C, H) 6. Technology operations and concepts Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations. b. Select and use applications effectively and productively

Aztec Society Follow the link below to explore the different class structures of the Aztec and learn about their slavery. http://tarlton.law.utexas.edu/exhibits/aztec/aztec_social.html • The four classes of the Aztecs were Nobility, Commoners, Serfs, and Slaves. • Slaves could be prisoners of war or criminals. • Slaves couldn’t be resold and were freed once their owners died. In the link below you will learn about the Gods of Aztec religion and religious beliefs and practices. http://www.mayankids.com/mmkpeople/mkaztec.htm • They believed in many underworlds and heavens. • They also believed in many God’s, such as Tonatiuh, God of the Sun. • Human sacrifice was common.

Aztec Society Explore the warfare of the Aztecs in the link below and understand why they were so feared by others. http://www.aztec-indians.com/aztec-warriors.html • The purpose of warfare was to kidnap victims for sacrifice. • Later the purpose became conquest and power. • Warriors were 17 years or older. • The two orders of Aztec warriors were Otontinand Cuahchicqueh.

Inca Society Following the link below will allow you to better understand Inca religious beliefs and practices. http://www.rediscovermachupicchu.com/inca-religion.htm • They practiced a polytheistic religion (believing in many Gods). • They believed in the afterlife, that loved ones could still hear beyond the grave. • Society used sacred objects to hold rituals in sacred places, such as mountains or rivers.   15. Summary In this lesson the students learned major details about Inca and Aztec society. They learned about slavery, hierarchy, family life, religion, military and other beliefs and practices. The students answered a series of questions throughout their reading about Aztec sacrificeand warfare, also Inca sacred ground and village life. Also in this lesson students were able to navigate to different links, which told them more about Aztec and Inca society.
