Breastfeeding welcome here campaign • Currently have 58 businesses • Intern Cynthia Hearn is working on this project in the Waldorf, MD area for her Master’s Degree internship project • Encourage all members to reach out to their church, temple or mosque and ask them to join the campaign • Encourage all members to reach out to local businesses they frequent and ask them to join the campaign

Breastfeeding backlash • Presented at ILCA by Deborah van Wyck and Kimberley MacKenzie • Highlights: • We have done a great job with education and promotion, more women are initiating breastfeeding • We have lower numbers who are able to exclusively breastfeed or who are breastfeeding for as long as they would like • It is time to examine systems change to enable women to breastfeed for as long as they would like • How does this apply to our coalition? Advocate for, promote and protect the following: • Access to breastfeeding support • Supportive hospital policies • Adequate family leave and childcare • Workplace accommodations • Breastfeeding inclusive spaces • Change attitudes and culture • Address social inequities • Must listen to family’s and their stories (echoes of KSA’s presentation) • Subscribe to USBC Wednesday Weekly Wire
