Contents • Each site will receive one hand grip dynamometer case containing: • 1 x Jamar Hydraulic Hand Dynamometer • 1 x Jamar Hydraulic Hand Dynamometer Instruction Manual • 1 x Jamar Certificate of Calibration
Parts of a Dynamometer • After removing the Dynamometer, check that the black Gauge Needle is above the “0”.
Resetting the Gauge Needle • If the gauge needle is not above the zero, remove the crystal and using a flathead screw driver move the needle until it is set above the “0” mark
Preparation for the Test • Rotate the red Peak-Hold Needle counter-clockwise to zero • Pass the Dynamometer to the patient • Do not hold Dynamometer from the gauge (top) • Have the patient grip and place the strap on the wrist of their dominant hand
Adjusting the Handle • If the handle feels too large or small for the patient to grip comfortably, remove Dynamometer from the patient and adjust accordingly as shown
Conducting the Test • Have the patient sit upright in a chair with an arm rest. The patients elbow should be at a 90˚ angle • Have the patient squeeze with their maximum strength. Sustain for 5 seconds. The peak-hold needle will automatically record the highest force exerted
Conducting the Test • Record the peak value in pounds (inside dial) as shown by the red Peak-Hold Needle • Repeat test 2 more times • Sterilize Dynamometer with an alcohol wipe between patients This would be a reading of 120 pounds.
