  1. What is a biome? How many are there in the world? What is an ecosystem? *See page 82 So…… an ecosystem is to a biome as a city is to a _________________.

  2. Get out your climate/vegetation cards. Use your world climate map to help you separate the types of climates based on location in high, mid, low or anywhere categories. Make four stacks , one for high, one for mid, one for low and one for anywhere! For example: Tropical wet and dry is found only in the ….. Low latitudes!

  3. Please mark each card according to latitude.

  4. One of the words I left out in the LEMPOSA notes was…….. CONTINENTALITY What climate factor could you infer this word fits best with?

  5. L.E.M.P.O.S.A. REVIEW ….plus climate and vegetation *Remember LEMPOSA are factors that affect climate. In other words they are the conditions that help create a specific type of climate. *Do not confuse this with characteristics of a climate which are how much precipitation the climate area gets and also it’s temperature range. In other words, how a person would describe what it is like in a certain climate region. (note cards!)

  6. You need: -your climate map -your LEMPOSA bookmark -your note cards -a piece of blank paper

  7. A question will come up on the next slide. You are competing against your partner……… SO BE QUIET! Write what you think the answer is on your extra piece of paper—cover it and wait!

  8. 1. What vegetation zone has “permafrost bogs”? *Remember, write your answer and quietly wait! Now, compare your answer to your partner. Did you get the same thing? Discuss who is correct, justify your answer by using your reference material if you need to. The correct answer gets the point, please put a tally mark at the top of your page each time you score it is possible that you BOTH get the point. Make up a definition for “permafrost bog” with your partner.

  9. 2. What type of climate and vegetation best fit this picture? 3. What LEMPOSA factor best explains this climate? 4. What are the temperature and precipitation characteristics of this climate?

  10. Latitude Range: found all over the world • Global Position: Rocky Mountain Range in North America, the Andean mountain range in South America, the Alps in Europe, Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa, the Himalayans in Tibet, Mt. Fuji in Japan 5. What climate is being described above?

  11. 6. What type of vegetation is shown above? 7. In what type of climate zone is this vegetation found?
