Get Acquainted with the Complete Syllabus and Pattern of NTSE NTSE or National Talent Search Examination is one of the most competitive examinations conducted by NCERT to award scholarships to meritorious students of class tenth in India. Students of class-tenth from all over the country are eligible to participate in this prestigious scholarship program. Every year the scholarship program is conducted usually in the month of November and approximately 9-10 lakhs students appear for this scholarship test. Out of lakhs of students, only 10,000 students are selected for the NTSE scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to help meritorious students, who are regarded as national talent, to pursue higher studies. Stages of NTSE The National Talent Search Examination is conducted in two stages called Stage I and Stage II. NTSE ‘Stage I’ is a state-level exam conducted by different states and union territories of India, whereas Stage II is a national-level exam conducted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training. Both the two stages of NTSE are divided into two parts, Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). This test is organized offline in pen-paper mode and the questions are asked in both Hindi and English language. Let’s decode the syllabus and examination pattern of NTSE in both stages.
NTSE Stage I Syllabus Since NTSE ‘Stage I’ is divided into two parts, MAT and SAT, so the syllabus for both parts is different. However, students should have sound knowledge of all the topics of class-9th and 10th given in their NCERT books. NTSE aspirants should not only be aware of the syllabus but should also be aware of the examination pattern. This will allow them to ideally prepare for the exam which will help them score exceptionally well on the exam. The exam is conducted offline in the pen-paper mode comprising multiple choice questions. The total number of questions in both MAT and SAT sections is a hundred consisting of 40 questions from Science and Social Science each and 20 questions from Math. Both MAT and SAT are of 2 hours each and 1 mark is awarded for each correct answer and there is no negative marking for the incorrect or unattempted question. The Mental Ability Test consists of logical and analytical reasoning questions and tests students' reasoning ability to think, evaluate, visualize, and their ability to discriminate. Scholastic Aptitude Test or SAT consists of questions from Science, Math, Social Science, and English Language. This section tests students' general awareness, reading abilities, interpretation, and evaluation.
