  2. Process Analysis • Provides “HOW TO” instructions • Breaks a process into its parts and steps • Common in science, technology, and Ikea • Useful in any subject where you need to explain the way in which to do something

The Parts • A Clear Thesis stating Purpose • Juveniles face four legal steps before they can be imprisoned. • Logical Sequence of Steps • Prosecutor considers if a child goes to informal or formal hearings • The minor is offered a plea agreement • The judge diverts the case • The judge holds an adjudicatory hearing

  4. The Parts, Cont. • Explanation of everything • The minor enters into a plea agreement.Often, a plea agreement hinges on the juvenile's compliance with certain conditions. For example, a juvenile may need to attend counseling, obey curfews, or reimburse the victim for damages. • The judge "diverts" the case.When a judge diverts a case, the judge retains jurisdiction over the case while the juvenile undergoes a recommended program or performs some act. If the juvenile doesn't fulfill these obligations, the court may reinstate formal charges. • The judge holds an adjudicatory hearing.If the case goes to trial, both sides present evidence and the attorneys argue the case (much like a criminal trial). In most states, the hearing is before a judge, not a jury.
