  1. Venice - Venice Italy Bridge of Sighs | Venitian Rooftop Sunset | Grand Canal Venice Italy Venice had been on my list since I was 10 years old, having seen "the Italian Job" for the first time. The first scene in that movie shows an intricate heist of gold bars, set in Venice. The robbers make their escape on speed boats in a dramatic high-speed chase through the canals of Venice. I was confused watching this, "where are the roads?!" My mom explained to me in Venice there were no roads, only water canals and that the whole city was on water. At the point, I knew I had to visit and 12 years later I got the opportunity to go! This all-too-brief trip yielded these 5 images, and over the next few years I will definitely be adding to this when I return. Venice Italy Bridge of Sighs This gorgeous bridge is one of the most famous in Venice. The vantage point from which to view this famous scene was so crowded and cramped when I say this, that I had to crawl onto the ground, underneath the crowds, and carefully place my lens through a narrow gap in the railing to get this shot. I spent about a 1/2 hour to get this exact shot that I wanted. I only wish I could have stayed in Venice for longer than the 4 days!

  2. Venitian Rooftop Sunset I shot this from the top of the bell tower that overlooks the world famous "Piazza San Marco" (St. Mark's Square, in English), the main public square in Venice. The terracotta tile roofs of Italy are so iconic, they have been replicated and copied all over the world. Entrance of the Grand Canal Venice Italy I shot this from the top of the bell tower that overlooks the world-famous "Piazza San Marco" (St. Mark's Square, in English), the main public square in Venice. I took the tour up to the top, packed in with hundreds of tourists, before hearing the announcement that this elevator ride down would signal the last tour of the night. I realized this would mean missing the sunset over the entrance of the Grand Canal, and well, I didn't know the next time I'd be in Venice so I did the only sensible thing there was to do, and hid! I curled into a ball and made myself small, out of the way. The security guards didn't see me and the tower was emptied out of tourists, without me. I waited for that perfect timing and color in the sky, and then got my shot!
