Textbooks and Interactive Notebooks • Students have been given a text book that they will use for the school year and will return in June • The History Alive! text series uses an Active Instruction approach which includes: • Multiple Intelligences • Cooperative Interaction/Learning • Understanding by Design and Representation – linking content to the real world

  3. Homework/Class Work • Other than reviewing/studying, there is almost no homework given with this series • Majority of work is completed as class work, often in collaborative groups • Occasionally students may need to finish an assignment for homework that they were not able to finish in class • Also, occasionally, students may be given project based assignments that need to be completed as homework *Missed Work – if students miss class for any reason, it is their responsibility to find out what work they missed

  4. Daily Spark Notebooks • Used on a daily basis to get students thinking and writing down their thoughts • Students will be prompted by: • News stories • Quotes • Posed questions • Students may be asked to share their thoughts • Notebooks will be checked daily, through teacher observation, to ensure time on task

  5. Graded Assignments*All graded assignments will be posted in Genesis* • Worksheets (completed individually) • Interactive Notebook pages (completed individually) • Quizzes • Projects (some completed completely in class and some completed in class and at home) • Tests

  6. Marking Period Averages • Based on the following: • Tests – 60% • Quizzes – 20% • Class work/Projects – 20% • Students will be given 5 days notice for all tests • Students may or may not be given notice of quizzes
