  1. Data Presentation Data Presentation German Dutch Windtunnels (DNW) Wiekie Kollen

  2. Two years ago … • Different platforms, different data acquisitions systems and different data structures • A different Presentation Tool for each DNW engineer (Toolmaster, TUX, Gsharp, matlab, PV-Wave, …) • Pockets of expertise • Unused and underused applications

  3. One year ago … • Not much different • Attempts made to reduce time and costs using hardware and software harmonisation – with limited success • DNW expanding – harmonisation essential – not just beneficial • GsharpApp chosen for presentation of on-line data …

  4. Harmonisation • Need common interface for engineers and clients, but … • People say yes but don’t change • Fails without local expertise to backup change • Will hopefully work better if remote sites request working solutions from central site

  5. WHOOPS Windtunnel Harmonised On-line Off-line Presentation System • Control room application • Six remote screens • Real-time presentation • Direct link to FORTRAN data processing routines

  6. Why GsharpApp? • DNW’s core business is measuring aerodynamic data • Quality and versatility of graphics • Gsharp already on-site • Consultants available • Speed of development (!) • Application development was quicker than doing it all in Visual C++ • Overcoming technical limitations was not so quick

  7. Summary • Harmonising software cheaper and easier than harmonising hardware • Many people input, but one person decides • Create solutions people want rather than forcing new products
