  2. "Takht" or "Takhata" literally means "throne" or "seat of authority." It is a direct result of the great historical growth of Sikhism, the main religion in the northern regions of India. But the Sikhs have made an impact not only in India but also throughout the world. Guru Hargobind established the first and most important one in the year 1609. It is called 'Akal Takht' (the Throne of the Timeless God) and is found across the entryway of Harmandir Sahib - the Golden Temple in Amritsar. www.sikhtours.in
