Finally, Jordan retired for a third and final time in 2003 at the age of 41. Converse didn't think they needed a newcomer when they had big deals with stars like Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. Nike was keen to support basketball mainly because it had a reputation at the time as a manufacturer of athletic shoes. So after taking advice from his parents and visiting Nike headquarters, Jordan was offered a $500,000/5 year deal on his own line of shoes: the Air Jordan!
