  3. What is TPACK? • TPACK stands for technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge. This builds on Lee Shulman’s construct of pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) to include technology knowledge. With the growing use of technology in the classroom, it is important to have a framework that includes technology with pedagogy and content knowledge. • Teaching with technology can be complicated. It requires educators to feel comfortable using and adapting to quick changes in the use of technologies. There are many issues that educators experience when using technology in the classroom. What are my choices? What would fit my subject area? How will this enhance my instruction and ultimately, how will this benefit my students learning? • Flexible knowledge needed -- integration efforts should be creatively designed or structured for particular subject matter ideas in specific classroom contexts (Koehler, 62)

  4. Terminology • CK - teachers knowledge about subject matter to be taught/learned; the curriculum • PK - teachers understanding of how to teach and how students learn • PCK - teachers transform subject matter into ways to represent it, and adapting it to the needs of the learners • TK - teachers recognize when information technology can assist or impede the achievement of a goal, and continuously adapt to changes in technology

  5. Terminology • TCK- teachers understand the impact of technology on the practices and knowledge of a discipline -- using appropriate technological tools for educational purposes so that the content can be taught effectively • TPK - teachers understand how teaching and learning can change when particular technologies are used in particular ways • TPACK - the basis of effective teaching with technology, requiring an understanding of content knowledge and pedagogical knowledge
