The chemical symbol for water is H2O.

What elements make up water?

hydrogen and oxygen

Electrolysis

Electrolysis is the breaking apart of water using electricity.

When water is broken apart by an electric current, the hydrogen will be attracted to the pencil attached to the negative side of the battery and oxygen will be attracted to the pencil attached to the positive side of the battery.
