  2. Memory Verse • First take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye (Matthew 7:5) • Key Principle • A gracious, gentle attitude can prevent most conflicts

Matthew 7:1-5 “Judge not, that you be not judged.2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. 3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. • Question…When in conflict who has the bigger issue, You or the other person?

  4. In the video, what kind of “log” did the woman have in her eye? • What is it about her situation that makes her focus on her eco-worker’s faults? • How did focusing on his virtues change the course of this conflict?

  5. Think of a type of minor offense that you find difficult to overlook. • Why is it so difficult? • How would you and the people around you be affected if God enabled you to be more gracious, gentle and inclined to overlook that type of offense?

  6. Reflect on a conflict you have experienced. What more could you have rejoiced about in the midst of that situation? • What costs of conflict have you forgotten to take into account when deciding how to respond to someone who offended you? • What is the biggest “conflict price tag” you’ve ever paid?

Every church has a peacemaking “culture,” which is a combination of its attitudes, expectations, habits and unwritten rules for dealing with conflict. • What aspects of your church’s culture promote peace? • What aspect undermine peace? • What can you do to improve your church’s peacemaking culture?
