  15. Pressure Transducer Connection • The Pressure Transducer is connected to the DataLogger® via a cable. • The Pressure Transducer taps into the hydraulic system of the fusion machine using the supplied connection fittings and quick disconnect

  16. McElroy DL3-PPCData Logging Software Program • Factory set-up, so it’s ready to log data • Provides a user (MS Windows “like”) interface and joint reporting storage capability • Uses an removable Secure Digital (SD) card for data redundancy on the standard Pocket Pc • Uses an Compact Flash (CF) card for data redundancy on the Ruggedized Pocket Pc

  17. Pocket PC Date and Time Settings • The date and time must be checked and correctly set to ensure accurate records of fusion joints: • Turn on the Pocket PC • Tap Start > Settings • Tap the System tab • Tap Clock & Alarms • Select the appropriate time and/or date field and adjust the values until they are correct • It is a good habit to periodically check the time and date to ensure they are correctly set (double tap the time display) Display Screen B. 28. Using the PPC to Initiate the Data Logging Process • Tap the START button on the Pocket PC to initiate the data logging process • Note: The is a slight delay (3-5) seconds as the software sets up the procedure. Watch the PPC and wait for the STOP WATCH to begin before closing the carriage on the heater

  29. Using the PPC to STOP the Data Logging Process • Follow the prescribed methods to heat, fuse and cool the pipe. • Once the pipe fusion processes are complete; Tap the STOP button on the PPC to complete the data logging process. Note: Always stop logging before opening the carriage. Otherwise, an unintended change in pressure will be introduced at the end of the joint report graph

  30. Downloading the Joint Report into the Pocket PC • Once you have confirmed the STOP command, a dialog box will appear that shows that “Logging stopped” • Next the program will automatically begin the process of downloading the joint report into the PPC. Note: Do not turn-off the DataLogger® or the Pocket PC until the download is complete.

  31. Reading and Analyzing Data 1a. 1b. • The joint report will be displayed upon the completion of the download. • 1a and 1b presents information related to the joint, e.g. date, joint number, operator, etc. • 2 presents the front end plot which shows the shift-sequence into the soak cycle. The summary plot shows the entire fusion process from end-to-end. 2. Return to Index

  32. Reading and Analyzing Data Joint Made Using Improper Procedure • The Front-end Plots shows the result of a fusion that was made incorrectly. The plot highlights the occurrence of a bad shift sequence. The plot indicates that the pressure dropped off too slowly • The Summary Plot shows that the rest of the processes followed were OK. Unfortunately the joint is bad due to the incorrect shift sequence, it will need to be cut out

  33. Reading and Analyzing Data Joint Made Using Proper Procedure • The Front-end Plot shows the result of a fusion that was made correctly. The plot indicates that the pressure dropped off Correct • The Summary Plot shows that the rest of the processes followed were OK.

  34. Trouble Shooting • Bluetooth Connection • iPAQ power-up • DL-3PPC Program Return to Index
