  3. Intelligent Building Open Protocols Problem for contractors if all manufacturers have “bespoke” protocols A closed protocol causes environmental issues. Each change of the building may mean the full system being scrapped and replaced.

  24. Communicating New Technology • Can any of these communication technologies be of benefit to your business? • How can we get individuals the industry to communicate with us?

General Comments? • WoM is best form of communication • Too much information thrown at people from all sides • Communication technology is not simple enough and has moved too fast for people to understand • Phone (wholesaler, trade association, manufacturers) Google & manufacturers sites are often ways of searching for info. • Lack of time is a barrier • Only large contractors have PR teams • Giving and getting information is not ‘habitual’ • May be reluctance to share information with us – should we go via trade associations and industry bodies?

How can we get individual contractors or contracting firms in the industry to communicate with us? • Make it worth contractors’ while • Highlight high number of specifiers & clients using the site – help join up the industry • More obvious calls for content • Make it simple for contractor – offer Voltimum’s editorial skills • Offer free Product samples for articles and case studies • Offer prizes for best monthly articles
