Brazilian Conditional Cash Transfer Programs and Labor Supply: A Literature Review

This literature review examines the impact of conditional cash transfer programs in Brazil on labor supply. The study delves into the theoretical frameworks, emphasizing the inherent challenges related to maximizing family utility under interpersonal constraints. Dynamics such as job search costs and empirical complexities are explored. Multiple sources, predominantly utilizing Pnad data, contribute to the discussion on key variables like work hours and employment probabilities. Three potential analytical approaches are suggested: (i) mean comparisons, (ii) regression analysis, and (iii) quasi-experimental methods (e.g., propensity score matching).
