  4. Problems with Medicines • Allergic Reactions- name some • Side Effects- you hear them all the time- name some of these • Drug Interactions- mixing

  5. USING MEDICINES WISELY: • Be a part of the health team • Ask questions • Learn the facts- research • Listen to your body • Not safe suddenly stopping • Speak up and get parent assistance

  6. The Effects of Drugs • FROM THE BOOK: • “People abuse drugs that affect only the brain. No one abuses a drug because of what it does to his or her stomach, lungs, or liver.” • What do you think that means?

  7. The Path to Addiction • Discussion prompt: How do humans get addicted to drugs? What are the steps? • Does everyone get addicted? • Tolerance- larger dose for same effect • Dependence- physical / psychological • Addiction- warning signs (pg. 232) • Withdrawal- crash (reaction) and craving
