  2. The Allusion • “She loved everything that grew in gods earth, even the weeds. With one exception. If she found a blade of nut grass in her yard it was like The Second Battle of Marne; she swooped down upon it with a tin cup and subjected it to blasts from beneath with a poisonous substance she said was so powerful it’d kill us all if we didn’t stand out of the way” • Scout says this; she is talking about Miss Maudie.

  3. About the Allusion • The second battle of Marne is the last major German spring offensive on the western front during the first world war. The German attack failed when an allied counter attack led French and American overwhelmed the Germans, inflicting severe causality's. It was a very important victory for the American and French.

  4. Why it was used • This allusion was used because it is showing that miss Maudie was very brutal in killing the plants. The allies in WW1 had an overwhelming victory, killing many Germans. Miss Maudie had and overwhelming victory, killing many plants.
