What is Medicare? • Medicare is the federal health insurance program for: • People who are 65 or older • Certain younger people with disabilities • People with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant, sometimes called ESRD) • Medicare is partly funded by payroll taxes from most employers, employees and all people who are self-employed.   5. Medicare Part A • Parts A is known as Original Medicare. Part A covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care. • This includes things like a shared hospital room, meals and nurse care.   6. Medicare Part B • Parts B is also known as Original Medicare. Part B covers certain doctors' services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services. • This is care that happens outside of a hospital.   7. Medicare Part C • Part C helps pay for hospital and medical costs, plus more. Part C plans are only available through private health insurance companies. Part C called as Medicare Advantage plans. This covers everything Parts A and B cover, plus more. • Part C plans put a limit on what you pay out of pocket in a given year, too. Some of these plans cover preventive dental, vision and hearing costs.
